March 2016 in Abuja. The book Titled: “The Boko Haram Phenomenon and Terrorism
in Nigeria”, the author of the book Rt. Air Commodore Abdullahi emphasized that
focus on human development aspect of tackling insurgency will go a long way in
tackling the root causes of the problem, reports Vanguard ngr.
He said that the security challenges in the
North-East was enormous and required synergy from all irrespective of the
geo-political zone one came from.
“As an individual, I think this is one of
roles I should play; drawing attention to the plight of the victims of
insurgency. “We are trying to bring out historical events for future
generations to read with a view to finding solutions to the problem we have
today.
He said that the war against terrorism was not
a conventional one and could not be handled in line with rules of engagement.
Abdullahi
said, however, that the Nigerian military has done well in the prosecution of
the war and deserved commendation.
He said that
government had a major role to play in combating terrorism; hence, he came up
with crisis management strategy which would help government get back on track
whenever it derailed.
In his comments, Rear Admiral Samuel Alade,
the Commandant, National Defence College (NDC), said that the book was an
intellectual property. “It is a recipe for finding solutions to the case of
terrorism globally and particularly in Nigeria.
“We are all aware of the challenge of Boko
Haram; the book will contribute in finding solutions to the problem of Boko
Haram.
“We have done a lot to find solutions to the
problem of Boko Haram; what is happening in the North-East now is an example.
“The Boko
Haram insurgents have been brought to their knees; the challenge will soon be
over,’’ he said.
On his part, Mr Segun Adeniyi, the Book
Reviewer, said that the book sought to proffer solutions to insurgency using
local ideas.
He said that the book highlighted that the
inactions of those saddled with responsibilities could lead to disastrous
consequences.
“If
proactive measures were put in place at the time Boko Haram started breeding,
we will not be where we are today,’’ he said.
The author
donated 25 per cent of proceeds of his book launch to victims of terrorism.
Abdullahi announced the donation at the public presentation and launch of the
book.
“We are
making contributions to the rehabilitation of the victims and that is why I
devote 25 per cent of what we generate today to the Victims Support Fund,’’ he said.
The author
was a former Director, National and Military Strategy, NDC, Abuja. The book
presentation, which was held at the NDC’s auditorium, attracted dignitaries
from the diplomatic corps, military hierarchy, National Assembly and
